How to ensure the safety of liquid nitrogen tanks
2025-07-01 17:21

Liquid nitrogen tanks, also known as liquid nitrogen biological containers, are biological storage containers that are usually used to store active biological materials. The main factors affecting the safety of liquid nitrogen tanks include:

I. External environment

1. High temperature and high pressure

Liquid nitrogen is made by air compression and cooling, and can be restored to nitrogen when it is vaporized. When the external temperature and pressure exceed the cooling temperature and pressure that the tank should withstand, there will be safety hazards.

2. Collision and vibration

After the liquid nitrogen tank is subjected to severe collision and vibration, the insulation layer or other parts will be damaged, and the external environment will directly affect the vaporization, causing danger.

3. Poor sealing and ventilation

The ventilation environment for the use and storage of liquid nitrogen tanks is poor.

II. Quality factors

1. Improper material selection

The body of the liquid nitrogen container is generally made of pure aluminum foil and stainless steel cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel plates. If the specifications and quality of these main materials do not meet the requirements of the standard and cannot meet the conditions for freezing liquid nitrogen, an accident is very likely to occur.

2. Poor insulation

The liquid nitrogen tank consists of an inner and outer double tank, and the outer surface of the inner tank is wrapped with multiple layers of heat-insulating bodies. Once the reflective material and the heat-insulating material fall off, the adjacent reflective material will be in direct contact with the outer tank, causing the liquid nitrogen in the inner tank to expand and gasify rapidly.

3. Aging of valves, instruments and other accessories

During long-term use, if the valves, instruments and other accessories of the liquid nitrogen tank are not frequently inspected and replaced, once these accessories are aging, it will cause temperature rise or liquid nitrogen leakage.

III. Human factors

1. Improper storage and transportation

Liquid nitrogen storage tanks are mainly used for static storage of liquid nitrogen indoors and are not suitable for long-distance transportation in working conditions.

2. Improper use

If the liquid nitrogen tanks used for a long time are improperly operated or not regularly inspected and maintained during use, the equipment will have hidden dangers.

3. Liquid nitrogen leakage

If the liquid nitrogen in the inner tank cannot be discharged normally for a long time, or a large amount of leakage into the interlayer space is vaporized, it may also cause the liquid nitrogen container to fail.
