How to effectively clean biological liquid nitrogen tank
2025-12-19 15:21

Liquid nitrogen containers can generally be divided into two types: liquid nitrogen storage tanks and liquid nitrogen transport tanks. Liquid nitrogen storage tanks are mainly used to store liquid nitrogen for later low-temperature experiments or to store samples that require low-temperature preservation, such as cells and tissues. Liquid nitrogen transport tanks are used for the transfer of low-temperature samples.

During use, biological liquid nitrogen tank accumulates moisture inside. Therefore, the inside of the tank should be cleaned and dried 1-2 times per year. The steps are as follows:

1. Remove the handle and liquid nitrogen from the container and let it sit for about two days. This allows the internal temperature to rise to around 0°C.

2. Pour warm water (40°C-50°C) or a neutral detergent into the liquid nitrogen tank, then wipe it clean with a cloth.

3. Rinse it with water.

4. Invert the container to dry. Drying can be done by natural air drying or hot air drying. If using the latter, the temperature should be limited to 40°C-50°C. Avoid using hot air above 60°C, as this can affect the performance of the liquid nitrogen tank and shorten its lifespan.

Liquid nitrogen tank is designed for storing liquid nitrogen. Generally, liquid nitrogen tanks should be cleaned and disinfected once a year after use. Safe and standardized operation, proper storage, and correct maintenance can effectively extend the service life of liquid nitrogen tanks.
